The 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has promised that his government will pay apprenticeship fee (titi nsa) for all Ghanaian youth who want to learn a skill.
Addressing NDC supporters in Kajeji in the Sene East Constituency, the former President said this initiative forms part of the NDC’s quest to ensure that all Ghanaian youth learn one form of skill or another.
“We will bear the cost of all apprenticeship fees (tiri nsa) for every youth who want to learn a skill. We will fund this through the District Assembly…they will compile the list of all masters and ensure that they pay the monies to them so everyone can go and learn a skill free of charge…,” he pledged.
Apprenticeship fees are paid to business owners, otherwise known as masters before one is admitted into a skill training centre. The price in Ghana ranges from skill to skill. Other items are included in this.
The former President further said this forms part of his government’s efforts to ensure to reduce the number of unemployed youth in the country.
“No more will our youth become pregnant or yahoo boys because of they lack unemployable skills…we will eliminate all of this…,” he assured.
John Mahama was at Kajeji as part of his Bono East tour to canvass for votes ahead of the 2020 elections.
