The Supreme Court has dismissed an application for certiorari filed against a High Court ruling by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in the Ken Agyapong defamation suit.
Led by Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, the five-member panel upheld the previous ruling by the High Court.
Six years ago, an Accra High Court dismissed a defamation lawsuit amounting to GHC25 million brought by Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Kennedy Agyapong, which also imposed a cost of GHC50,000 on the journalist.
Anas accused the Assin Central MP of defamation, prompting legal proceedings initiated in 2018.
In a majority decision on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Supreme Court dismissed the case.
Despite the plea from Kennedy Agyapong’s legal counsel for costs to be awarded against Anas, the Supreme Court opted against doing so.
