TOR workers abandon facility; FLEE to Iraq for greener pastures

Workers of Ghana’s only refinery, Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) have abandoned their roles in the state owned company and are fleeing to the gulf countries for greener pastures.

The sorry state of the facility which has now become the storehouse for private Oil Marketing Companies has been the main catalyst for the mass exodus of the skilled Ghanaians.

A communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Twum Barima who revealed this on Angel Morning Show said the workers became disappointed after bad managerial practices led to the collapse of the once vibrant refinery.

“”TOR was known for refining crude but in recent times it has turned to a storage facility where it stores production of other companies. workers of TOR now seeks greener pastures in Iraq. Can you imagine…,?” he claimed.

He further wondered the kind of working conditions that can push a Ghanaian to consider working in a war-torn country.

“…pardon me, but how can a Ghanaian worker have the mindset to travel to a country like Iraq to go and work?” he asked.

Lawyer Twum Barima accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of being the cause of the failure of TOR as according to him, the state has failed to take interest in the operations of TOR.

“Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia have not taken any interest in TOR and this has led to its collapse. The government too has shown that they have no interest in reviving it…,but John Dramani Mahama has promised to revive and make it work again because it is one of the many policies of Mr. Mahama,” he said.

The politician however assured that former President John Mahama who is seeking re-election in December 2024 will revive the state facility when he assumes power.
