Kumasi Asante Kotoko this morning confirmed the signing of Goalkeeper, Razak Abalora on a three-year contract.
The Kumasi-based club are building a very solid team as they prepare for the forthcoming season. The club will be competing in three competitions in the next football season. Asante Kotoko SC earlier confirmed their participation in the upcoming 2020/2021 CAF Champions League competition, Ghana Premier League and the old-aged MTN FA Cup.
Asante Kotoko assembling the best goalkeepers in the country is an indication that they are a serious club and it means they have laid much emphasis on the goalkeeping department clearly explaining that the department is an integral and important department so far as winning games are concerned.
Asante Kotoko already have three national team goalkeepers namely, Felix Annan who is part of Black Stars goalkeepers, Kwame Baah who took over from Annan as the 1st choice goalkeeper for the porcupines and also who keeps for Black Meteors as well as former Berekum Chelsea loanee who is with Black Satellites and Black Meteors.
The signing of Razak Abalora means he will join Captain Felix Annan and Kwame Baah in competing for the number one spot at the Kumasi based club.
I will also advice that, they need to have a comprehensive program in place to keep them busy and competitive, by so doing, they will all be on their guard.
This move by Asante Kotoko reminds me of our days at the Black Stars. Eddie Ansah, Salifu Ansah, Mohammed Odoom, Nana Bayin and myself were all around just to increase competition.
Asante Kotoko needs to have a very good goalkeepers trainer who has good plans and understands the department to give every goalkeeper a role.
The goalkeepers trainer must do a rotation of goalkeepers so that they will not go rusty because these are all top level goalkeepers and it must depend on the performance of each goalkeeper.
