Accra Hearts of Oak Chief Executive Officer Fredrick Moore has added his voice to the heated debate on whether Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan should retire from the Black Stars or not after his captaincy was stripped off from him by former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.
There were several calls from Ghanaians that Asamoah Gyan must bid farewell to the national team to maintain his reputation and achievement for the West African country.
According to some people, this is not how Asamoah Gyan should be paid back upon all the great works he has done for the country so he should honourably retired from the team.
However Mr Moore in an exclusive interview with Volta Region based radio station Agboo 92.9 FM believes Ghanaians are not in a right position to determine the players faith playing with the senior national team but rather the player himself.
“Am so happy for the opportunity to speak on this Asamoah Gyan issue whether he should resign from playing Black Stars or not”
“The only person that can retire Asamoah Gyan from Black Stars is himself, there are a lot of players who are not picked for the national team for one reason or the other.”
Before to the 2019 AFCON, Gyan was stripped off his captaincy by Kwesi Appiah where Andre Ayew was named as the substantive skipper.
CK Akonnor, who is now the head coach of the senior national team, Black Stars, has maintained Andre Ayew as the captain of the team with Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori as deputy captains.
The latest decision by the coach has cast doubt on the future of Gyan in the Black Stars.
