Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and Ashantigold Sporting Club have agreed to represent Ghana in Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) competitions in the 2020/2021 season.
The Board Members of Kotoko and the President of Ashantigold, Dr Kwaku Frimpong took the decision to accept the GFA’s call to represent the nation in the Champions League and Confederation Cup campaign.
The nomination of Kotoko and Ashgold for Africa became necessary following the cancellation of the 2019/20 season by the GFA due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ghana’s most authoritative football website Ghana News Page can exclusively report that Special Advisor on health at the presidency, Dr. Nsiah Asare disclosed to the FA in a brief meeting that the President of Ghana wants them (Kotoko and Ashgold) to play their CAF matches without supporters and the two clubs will be allowed to start training should in case restrictions on football not lifted.
The FA will officially write to these clubs for their acceptances whether to participate in the competition or withdraw after knowing when the 2020/21 CAF inter club competition will begin by CAF.
Kotoko and Ashgold will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively following the cancellation of the 2019/20 season.
