The Chief Executive Officer of the Miners has announced the departure of their jewel following the expiration of his contract.
Black Stars ‘B’ captain Shafiu Mumuni has left the Ashanti Gold SC after his contract ran out last month.
Mumuni was the top scorer of the Obuasi based club in their last campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to Ashanti Gold SC CEO Emmanuel Frimpong, Shafiu is leaving the club after head coach Roberto Landi declared him as surplus to requirement.
“Shafiu [Mumuni] is not part of our plans. The head coach claimed Shafiu is not needed in the team [Ashantigold] because we have signed his replacement. His contract has ended”, Frimpong told Kumasi-based radio station Fox FM.
Shafiu has been heavily linked to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
He underwent trials at Romanian club CFR Cluj earlier this year.
Mumuni was crowned top scorer for the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations after netting four goals after the tournament.
He made history to become the first-ever player to register a hat-trick at the tournament held in Senegal last year.
