Authentic breaking news hub, GhanaNewsPage.Com reported of the marriage between two active political figures in the country, Chief Biney Hamilton and Maame Afia Akoto.
Chief Biney is the Deputy National Organiser of the main opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Maame Afia Akoto is not only an active member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but also an appointee of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Pictures from the traditional marriage between the two shocked many as the NDC and the NPP are known to be two political parties that oppose each other’s policies and programmes.
Others also saw the marriage between the two political opponents as a sign of goodwill and a message to sympathisers of the two political parties that the main political actors are ‘one people’ with different ideologies.
This view is however not shared by social media commentators of the two political parties.
There are some social media commentators that see the marriage as nothing but just an expression of love.
Enoch Kofi Nyarko, a known critic of the NDC and an NPP member is the leader of this group. Below is his opinion on the marriage.
“Who someone chooses to marry is their private decision. Why waste your energy on things that do not add or take anything from you? Who has stopped you from marrying or dating anyone? You can marry John Mahama it is no one’s business. I belong to a party or hold a position so if I want to marry or attend a school, i should bring my wife and her family or the school I want attend to the party headquarters for vetting and approval? Very soon, we will have to be told how and what to eat. How many times we can sleep with our wives and the positions we can do. 24 hours is just too much for some people.“
“If she married Dombo, Busia, Dankwah, Adu Boahen, Kufour, Akufo Addo or any of their relatives, people will still have gotten issues with it. The fact is, not everyone will like you. People will hate you for no reason or something trivial. Just don’t live your life to please anyone. Do what you think is right. Your private life and personal decisions remain yours.”
His views are not supported by commentators of the NDC who think Afia Akoto will influence the husband to leak NDC’s information to her party:
Dukor Mevi, an NDC Communicator writes:
“In relationship (Marriage) women re powerful and influential than men therefore no mentally sound man would choose his political party on top of his wife’s happiness. So when an NDC man goes all the way to married a woman in Npp, that man is 90% npp and 10% NDC.
