The Electoral Commission (EC) has challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other opposition political parties calling for a new voters register to head to court if they think the EC has no power to do so.
According to Director of Electoral Services at the EC, the institution has completed all necessary processes towards the compilation of a new voters register and will not turn back.
The EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe who was speaking on Asempa FM as monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com said is done approving its time table for the year and compiling a new voters register for the 2020 elections is part of their agenda.
The EC confirmed today that the compilation of a new voters register for the 2020 elections will begin on April 18, this year.
The commission has also expressed the hope that it will complete the exercise by May 30, 2020.
These dates, Dr Quaicoe said has been finalised urging the NDC to stop demonstrating and send the EC to court if they believe the EC does not have the power to compile a new register.
“Now that the date for new register is out, any meeting or consultation would aim at helping the process of getting a credible register…those who disagree with us on the compilation of new register can go to court to compel us do otherwise,” he said in the interview monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com.
He further mentioned that during the registration exercise, only valid voters register will be accepted.
