A political analyst, Jonathan Asante Okyere, has explained that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has allowed its fixation with the passage of the controversial E-levy to cloud the judgement of the leadership of the party over the saga of the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The analyst noted that the party’s desire to pass the E-levy has led them to “dangerously” sacrifice the sitting Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo which he said is not good for the cohesion of the party.
Mr Okyere said this in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s evening news on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.
He admitted that the happenings in Parliament over the long absence of the Dome-Kwabenya MP leading to the party’s failure to garner the numbers for the passage of the E-levy is a clear indication that the centre cannot hold for the NPP.
“What is happening in Parliament goes down to leadership failure of the NPP as well as the government,” he added.
He cautioned the leadership of the NPP to tread cautiously with its decision to antagonize the MP over her absence in Parliament.
