Hon. Eric Kwakya Darfour, Eastern Regional Minister on his emergency visit to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly’s Capital, Somanya on Wednesday 21st August, 2019 applauded the efforts of the citizens, Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor – MCE Yilo Krobo Municipality and the Somanya District Police Command under the able leadership of DSP. Isaac Kojo Otsin for apprehending the alleged Cocoa fertilizer smugglers.

The Somanya District Police Commander in collaboration with citizens and other state institutions on Monday 19th August, 2019 arrested 5 heavy duty trucks with 4,000 bags of fertilizer meant for the government’s ‘Planting for food and jobs’ initiative at Agorme a suburb of Somanya.

On the emergency response visit by the Hon. Eastern Regional Minister, he and his entourage accompanied by the the Local authorities led by Hon. Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, MCE for Yilo Krobo Municipality and the Somanya District Police Commander, DSP. Isaac Kojo Otsin visited the house with registration Number C 8/2 at Asomdwekrom, Somanya where 8,00 bags of the fertilizers which were meant for Cocoa farmers at Samreboi in the Western Regiona was offload in somewhere in the Eastern Region.

After the Eastern Regional Minister taking comprehensive briefing from the local authorities in the office of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief executive addressed the media with the following informations.

The regional minister stated categorically that the following suspected persons has been reminded into prisons custody on tuesday 20th August by the Somanya Municipal court to assist with further investigation ; Patrick Nartey aged 43 who is a farmer had been identified as the Receiver, Mr. John Darkey age 65 a farmer – The house owner where the goods were offloaded, Mohammed Ahmed age 31 (trailer drive), Iliasu Seed age 46 (trailer drive), Michael Agyapong age 45 (trailer drive), Yaw Antwi age 34 (trailer drive) and Kwaku Owusu who is currently at large (trailer drive).

Hon. Eric Kwakya Darfour entreated the general public to assist with any information regarding the above issue that will make Ghana victorious since the issue at hand is with national interest and with the outmost interest of H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana we must all help to protect the national asserts at hand for the betterment of the nation.

The Eastern Regional Minister concluded by entreating the Somanya District Police Commander and his men to keep their hands clean from this issue which is of high national interest.

The 6 reminded suspects are expected to reappear before court on 2nd September, 2019 as Local authorities and security agencies in collaboration with authorities of the Ghana Cocoa board are working seriously to returned the diverted Cocoa fertilizers back to stores of cocoa board within the shortest possible time.

Hon. Richard Twum Barimah Koranteng, 2nd Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Region who accompanied the Eastern Regional Minister on this all important emergency visit applauded all stakeholders involved in this interception as he called on citizens to be on alert.
