E/R NDC exec fights anti-Mahama campaigners

Eastern Regional Youth Organiser of the opposition NDC, Haruna Apau Wiredu, is fiercely defending former President John Mahama against what he describes as attempts by some flagbearer hopefuls of the party to denigrate Mr Mahama to serve their interests.

“Some people feel it is fertile grounds for them and are going region by region instigating the grassroots by labelling John Mahama as the sole-agent for our defeat in the 2016 elections,” he told Valentina Ofori-Afriyie.

Mr Wiredu, who was also the 2016 Parliamentary candidate for the NDC in New Juaben North, threatened to launch reprisal attacks on any flagbearer hopeful involved in such smear campaign if the trend does not stop.

For him, one person is not to blame for the loss in the last elections “as the man is not the only cause of our problems”.

He says the party should rather focus on building its party structures and empower members to work towards winning the 2020 elections and not candidates fighting the former President.
