Your authoritative breaking news hub, GhanaNewsPage.Com, has learnt that Athletico Madrid player, Thomas Teye Partey is set to be named the deputy captain of the senior national team, Black Stars.

The Defensive Midfielder will replace Dede Ayew who this website earlier reported will be made the substantive captain.

The changes follow the decision of the coach, Kwesi Appiah to strip striker, Asamoah Gyan of the captaincy.

Gyan, who was unhappy with the decision of the coach announced his resignation from the team but has since rescinded his decision following an intervention by Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

GhanaNewsPage.Com understands that although Asamoah Gyan will be selected to be part of the team and will likely make the 23-man team for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) in Egypt, he will not be made the captain.

Dede, whom reports indicate is the most favoured for the captaincy position will lead the team out unto the field.

Partey who made his debut for the Ghana National Team in 2016 will deputise.

The Manchester United linked midfielder got the nod over Christian Atsu and Mubarak Wakasu who made their debut for the team almost the same time as him.

Partey is a key player for the Athletico Madrid and was on several occasions praised by his Manager for his superb performances last season.
