Filmmakers block Parliament

Some movie producers who were shooting a film on location interrupted parliamentary work on Tuesday, 7 November, leaving legislators inconvenienced after they blocked the eastern gate of the legislature.

The gate near the Banquet Hall is believed to have been blocked without prior notice, forcing most MPs to make a detour and use the main gate opposite the Accra International Conference Centre.

Mathias Ntow, Member of Parliament (MP) for Aowin constituency who raised this issue on the floor, questioned why a gate of the legislature could be blocked in such manner.

Sharing his colleague’s frustrations, Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak complained about how the use of parliament’s compound for funerals poses a security threat to MPs.

First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei-Owusu who sat in for the Speaker, urged leadership of the House to ensure such future impediments are prevented indicating that it is a wake-up call for the House to acquire its own land for the construction of its chamber and office complex
