The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has directed the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to commence negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bail out for the country.
This announcement was contained in a letter signed by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and released on 1st July, 2022.
This is not the first time the nation is engaging the Bretton Woods Institution to help shape the country’s economy. The nation has been to IMF sixteen (16) times since 1965.
The last time Ghana went to IMF was in 2015 when John Mahama was President of Ghana and this move was largely used against the former President during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
