Ghana can win World Cup, says CAF boss Motsepe

Confideration Of African Football(CAF) President Patrice Motsepe said on Thursday that Ghana can win the FIFA World Cup.

Mostepe made the bold statement at a press conference in Accra, as he brings to an end his two-day working visit to the West African country.

The Black Stars are still searching for their first major trophy since 1982 when they won the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time.

“Ghana has produced some of the best footballers in the world. This country has the talent and resources to produce a national team that can win the AFCON, but also win a World Cup,” Motsepe told the Ghanaian media.

The South African recalled the 2010 World Cup in which the Black Stars came very close to making history, as the first African side to reach the semi-final of the tournament.

Motsepe said he was left heartbroken when Uruguay eliminated Black Stars at the quarter-final stage because he had so much confidence in the Black Stars, describing the team as uniquely talented.

The African billionaire also reiterated his support for FIFA’s desire to have the World Cup played every two years, instead of four.

He said: “Side by side with the Super League is to have a World Cup every two years. African football must be put in a fundamental position to benefit financially.”

“I am very clear in my mind that one of the biggest beneficiaries of football every two years is the developing world.”

Motsepe took control of CAF earlier this year, standing unopposed in the presidential election after Ahmad Ahmad was disqualified due to FIFA ban for abusing his position as CAF President.
