Former Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur has responded to allegations leveled against her by husband, Tony Lithur in a divorce papers filed at the Accra High Court.
In a one-page response cited by GhanaNewsPage.Com, the Lawyer of 25 years standing described the reasons cited by her husband as grounds for divorce as unfortunate and ones which cannot stand.
Tony Lithur has among other things accused the human rights activists of neglecting her duties as a wife and flirting with other men.
The Lawyer of former President John Mahama also claimed that his wife of 27 years has not been washing his clothes.
“It took her weeks to wash petitioners [Tony Lithur’s] clothes, but [he] noticed that she didn’t wash well.”
“Eventually, [Tony Lithur] paid a laundryman to wash [their] clothes at the weekend,” the divorce petition read.
Responding to the claims, Nana Oye Lithur said the allegations cannot be true.
“It is unfortunate that a private family matter should now become a subject of public discussion.
“Everyone who knows me, and everything I stand for will know that the unfortunate allegations against me cannot be true,” she wrote.
Oye Lithur who expressed great confidence in God also called for prayers for the Lithur family.
“There is no doubt that these are trying times for my family; and I would like to count on your prayers, especially for our children,” she wrote.
She further expressed the hope that God will vindicate her as she believes she has done nothing wrong.
“As a Lawyer of 25 years standing, I have a firm belief in the legal system and almighty God to vindicate me,” she stated.
