The government of Ghana in its attempt to financially support Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold SC- Ghana’s two representatives in the CAF Inter-club competitions next season– has requested that they be furnished with the budgets of the two clubs.
Asante Kotoko will play in the CAF Champions League while AshantiGold SC plays in the CAF Confederation Cup after the decision was taken by the Ghana FA following the cancellation of the 2019-20 football season due to Coronavirus.
Government has earmarked an amount of US$ 350,000 to be paid to the two clubs but only on condition that they qualify to the Group stage of their respective competitions.
However, reports indicate that government has been engaged further on the need to support clubs especially in their preparation as this is key to ensuring an improved performance.
Following talks between key stakeholders, the government seems to have agreed and have in turn requested both Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold to make available their budgets to the Sports Ministry.
It is not known yet if the earmarked sum will be increased and when exactly payment will be effected, but certainly, reports suggest government is keen on rendering the needed support to clubs to allow for better preparations.
