Businessman Dr Kofi Amoah and the Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr Francis Oti Akenteng, have been tasked to manage football in the country.
The two-member body has been approved by the world football governing body, FIFA and the Ghanaian government to constitute an interim Liason Team in collaboration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to run the affairs of football in Ghana.
A statement signed by Ghana’s Minister of Sports Isaac Kwame Asiamah on Wednesday said the decision was taken after a government delegation met with FIFA officials last week in Zurich, Switzerland.
The statement said the government delegation to Zurich included the Sports Minister himself, a Deputy Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, a Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor and the Member of Parliament for Agona West Constituency, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
Following the deliberations, it was agreed that:
“The Government of Ghana and FIFA will collaborate, closely, to restore normalcy and integrity to the administration of football in Ghana.
“2. Pending the institution of definite interim measures for the administration of football in Ghana, the following persons are mandated to constitute a Liason Team with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for football affairs in Ghana:
a. Dr Kofi Amoah (Head of Liason Team)
b. Coach Oti Akenteng (Member)
“3. The Government entreats Ghanaians, and the football community in particular, to remain calm while firm measures are adopted to sanitise the administration of the game of football in the country”.
“FIFA and CAF continue to closely monitor and assess relevant developments in relation to the current situation of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). FIFA understands that various court proceedings have begun in Ghana aiming to investigate the circumstances reported in relation to the GFA and various GFA officials,” FIFA wrote in a letter to Mr. Oti Akenteng.
“The liaison team will remain in place until such time as a decision is reached on FIFA|CAF’s ongoing review process related to the situation of the GFA,” the letter signed by Fatma Samoura said.
