The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said that the government of President Akufo-Addo will launch ‘Ketewa biara nsua’ fund for Ghanaians to be able to donate at least a GHC 100.00 towards the completion of the cathedral.
“Government will launch “Ketewa biara nsua” fund for Ghanaians to donate Gh¢100 monthly through the shortcode 979 to build the National Cathedral…,” he said.
He further said that the the National Cathedral project will be commissioned in 2024.
Delivering the 2021 mid-year budget review in Parliament on Thursday, July 29, 2021, the Minister said work on the mammoth national infrastructure is progressing steadily.
“Work on the National Cathedral is progressing speedily and following the program of the contractors — and with God helping us — the National Cathedral is expected to be officially commissioned on March 6, 2024.
“Upon completion, the National Cathedral would provide a sacred space for formal religious activities of State and symbolise the enormous contribution of faith to nation building,” he said.
The ambitious National Cathedral project, when completed, will be situated within 14 acres of newly landscaped gardens adjacent to Osu Cemetery.
It will house a series of chapels, a baptistery, a 5000-seat two-level auditorium, a grand central hall, music school, choir rehearsal, art gallery, shop and multi-use spaces.
It will also be home to Africa’s first Bible Museum and Documentation Centre, dedicated to Christianity and nation-building in Ghana.
