‘I LIED about my HIV status because of stigmatisation’ – Joyce Dzidzor Mensah

Former HIV/AIDS Ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has said that she was forced to lie about her real HIV status because she feared she would be stigmatised by Ghanaians.

“I will go all out to do anything just to deny the fact that I am HIV positive despite medical reports proving otherwise…,” she said in an interview on Accra-based Angel FM monitored GhanaNewsPage.Com.

“Ghanaians have the attitude of stigmatizing people when they become victims of certain diseases and so in order to be accepted wherever I go and save myself from the humiliation, I had to come and post a viral load result as my HIV/AIDS result proving I have tested negative.

“This is no news because some HIV/AIDS patients even try to beat up doctors when their status is announced because they don’t want to accept the fact they have the virus,” she revealed.
