Formal HIV/AIDS Ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has said that she prefers the HIV virus to diabetes.
In an interview monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com, Joyce Mensah said the stigmatisation associated with HIV is the only problem associated with living with the disease which currently has no cure.
She said her preference stems from the fact that diabetes is a disease that causes high blood sugar which can lead to an instant death compared to HIV.
“Diabetes is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into your cells to be store or used for energy.
With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or cant effectively use the insulin it does make, with HIV the average time from infection to death is eight to ten year…,” she said.
She said stigmatisation has been the only problem associated with HIV ‘otherwise no one will know you’re an HIV positive person’
