The Minister of Business Development, Mr Mohammed Awal, has asked journalists in Ghana to develop passion for the job.

Speaking at the launch of the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa financial journalism training programme (intake 2) on Monday, 2 September 2019, the former Managing Director of the Graphic Communication Group Limited (GCGL) said passion will motivate journalists to think outside the box to help the cause of the country.

“I have been in the media landscape for 30 years. When we started journalism, there were no laptops, we had to write and go and sit at the post office and call Accra. I was in the north [then] then”, he recalled.

“One thing that got us going was passion”, he told the trainees, adding: “If you don’t have passion, please leave the journalism profession.”

He also advised journalists to “think outside the box.”

The Bloomberg Media Training initiative is a unique educational programme aimed at supporting the advancement of financial journalism and contributing to the economic development of Africa.
