Isaac Asiamah, Sports Minister

Ace sports broadcaster, Kofi Asare Brako otherwise known as Abatey has said, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has performed ‘creditably better and more than 90% of all sports ministers in the past two decades.’

In a Facebook post sighted by GhanaNewsPage.Com, the Sports Presenter chronicled the achievements of Isaac Asiamah which according to him makes him better than others.

The construction of stadia in all regions of this country, Abatay wrote, adds to his credit.

Below is his full post:

On January 19, 2016, Hon Nii Lanteyvanderpuiye became the Minister of Youth and Sports but he could barely spend a year in office before a change in government. He could’ve become one of the best Sports Ministers, having been a sportsman all his life, but it was never to be.

Immediately the new government took over, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah was appointed the new Sports Minister, he promised a social intervention policy by providing 10 multi-purpose youth sports centres of excellence.

Today, a look at all the facilities at Ho in the Volta Region, Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Axim in the Western Region, Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region, Dunkwa in the Central Region, Dormaa Ahenkro in the then Brong Ahafo Region and elsewhere show a major progress of the centres which are expected to be completed soon. The 10,000-seater capacity multi-purpose sports centres will house FIFA standard football pitches, an 8-lane tartan tracks, volleyball/tennis/handball/basketball courts, hostels, gymnasium, ICT/counselling centres, entrepreneurship centres and restaurants.

Certainly, this is a great story to tell Ghanaians; it’s a fulfilled promise by President Akufo-Addo’s administration. In the next few months, the President will join us all to commission all the projects. When completed, it will benefit the youth of this country. It’s a long term planning to address the country’s sports problems. Sports has taken a nosedive recently due to lack facilities. You have no idea the number of talents that will emerge in the coming years because of these facilities. Work has also commenced at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex and it is expected to be completed by end of year.

A careful look at the policy objectives includes enhancing sports and recreational infrastructure, building capacity for sports and recreational development, ensuring sustainable funding sources for the growth and development of sports.

The goal of the sports ministry under Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah’s mandate is to contribute to the attainment of national integration, sustained macro-economic stability, peace, healthy population and SDGs through youth development and empowerment, and above all, promotion of sports.

For this effort alone, if you ask me, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has performed creditably better and more than 90% of all sports ministers in the past two decades.

Politics aside!
