Law Lecturer, Prof Kwaku Asare, also known as Kwaku Azar has thrown shades at President Akufo-Addo for seeking to rename the University of Renewable Energy and Natural Resources after former Ghanaian Prime Minister, Prof K.A Busia.
President Akufo-Addo announced over the weekend that the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani in the Bono Region will be named after the late Prime Minister of the Second Republic, Prof K.A Busia.
“Following the decision taken by the University’s Council on August 3, 2018, the university will be named after one of the illustrious sons of the region, Professor K.A Busia after the decision had received Parliamentary approval “, he stated amidst applause.
A representative of the Wenchi Traditional Council, the hometown of the late K.A Busia, Akyeamehene Nana Damoah Koasane Adese-Poku Kofabaye thanked the university and the President for the honour done their son.
The decision has attracted lots of backlash from Ghanaians who are of the opinion that the renaming of public Universities after politicians is unnecessary.
Law Lecturer, Kwaku Azar has been one of the critics of the decision.
He has thus recommended that Universities be named after comedians instead of politicians.
