Juabenmanhene never ordered us to crawl on our bellies – Kongongo sub-chief

Some ex-sub chiefs of Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central District of the Ashanti Region have distanced themselves from viral reports on social media that their overlord, Omanhene of Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Otuo Serebour II once treated inhumanely when they visited his palace.

It would be recalled that the Juabenhene, who doubles as the chairman of the Council of State, on Tuesday May 31, 2022, dissolved the Council of stool elders of the Konongo sub-Traditional Council and relieved them of their traditional positions.

The elders purported to have been distooled are OKyeame Yaw Frimpong, OKyeame Poku, OKyeame Kwame Marfo, Nana Kwadwo Abrokwa (Krontihene), Nana Osei Tweneboah (Gyasehene), Nana Opuni Frimpong (Twafohene), Nana Appiah Fokyie (Sanaahene) and Nana Kwadwo Sarfo (Nsumankwahene).

The rest are; Nana Kwadwo Yeboah (Benkumhene), Nana Kwame Akowuah (Mmamahene), Nana Kofi Prah (acting Kyidomhene) and Nana Akua Pokuaa (Asona Maahema).

These elders are been faulted for swearing the oath of allegiance to the late Konongohene, Nana Batafo Acheampong Nti, who was accused of gross insubordination towards the Juabenhene and thus considered to have been destooled and, therefore, not recognised as a chief by the overlord.

News that made rounds on social media is that the sub-chiefs who later made attempts to reconcile with their overlord were made to kneel and crawl at the palace as a form of punishmnent; an act which did not go down well with some of the sub-chiefs and hence their resolve to seek redress in the law court.

The claims, some of the sub-chiefs say is incorrect and hence have distanced themselves from the law suit.

These sub-chiefs – Nana Kwadwo Owusu Abrokwa, ex-Krontihene; Nana Osei Tweneboa Kodua, ex-Gyaasehene; Nana Yaw Frimpong, ex-Okyeame; Nana Kwame Yeboah, ex- Benkumhene and Nana Sarfo, ex-Sumankwahene at a press conference stated categorically that at no time were they subjected to any cruelty, inhuman and degrading treatment and neither have their dignities been violated by Daasebre Nana Otuo Serebour II.

“We want to state on record that we are in no way associated with the action and those who have instituted the action are acting on their own accord and for their own personal interest and do not respect the interest of any of us,” ex-Okyeame, Nana Kwame Yeboah said at a press conference.

He continued that the group recognizes the Juabenmanhene as the overlord of the Konongo Stool and they declared that all actions taken by Daasebre Nana Otuo Serebour II, relative to all matters involving the Konongo Stool as proper and in accordance with custom.
