One person died instantly while three others sustained gunshot wounds in a renewed clash at Yendi in the Northern Region.
The clashes happened between Abudus and Andanis during the final stages of the funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani II.
It is not immediately known what caused the renewed clash between the Andanis and Abudus but a report from Akyereba Kwabena, a Peace FM reporter indicate that some youth belonging to Abudu gate started throwing stones at some chiefs from Andani gate while they were on their way to Yendi as part of the final funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa.
This forced their colleagues from the Andani gate to react since they claimed they couldn’t watch on as their chiefs are attacked.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Ali who has two wives and three children. All his wives are currently pregnant.
Akyereba continued that two houses were burnt down during the clash; one belonged to an Andani while another belonged to an Abudu.
A situational report from the police which has been sighted by GhanNewsPage.Com indicate that the clash happened around 5:30pm on Thursday when the Chief of Sagnarigu with his entourage of about 20 fleets of bus and truck arrived at Yendi.
While driving towards the Gbewaa palace, the Youth of Yendi hauled stones at them smashing windscreens of vehicles. This left several vehicles entering Yendi or leaving Yendi township with cracked windscreens.
This happened at Zohe, a suburb at the outskirts of Yendi in Tamale – Yendi Road.
The windscreen of a Police Navara Pick Up No. GP 3840 was also smashed with a stone.
Destruction and Injuries
One Iddrisu Abdulai, who is 50 years of Abudu Royal Gaye was shot in the hip while Abdallah Somed, 46, was also shot at the the upper part of his thigh. Both victims are receiving treatment at the emergency ward at the Yendi Government Hospital.
A home known as Duayili at the old palace junction In Yendi was burnt down to ashes while another house belonging to the Mbadugu of the Kampakuya-Na was burnt down.
The house of the grandmother of the Bolin Lana and Bolin Lana’s secretary’s family were also burnt.
Abdulai Issah, 26, of the Andani faction was slashed while riding on his motorbike and he sustained a deep cut at the back of his neck.
Though the situation is under control, the police have requested for re-enforcement so they can continue with the one week funeral of the late Ya-Naa.
