Twelve persons sustained various degrees of injuries at Alabar in Kumasi when two factions at Kumasi Abattoir clashed over the election of a Chief Abattoir.

According to a report filed by a GhanaNewsPage.Com reporter, the clash happened around 11:30am on Tuesday after the two factions that are contesting the position clashed at the Abattoir.

The report continued that the injured who are the supporters of the two contenders for the position, Alhaji Muntari Baturi and Alhaji Wahab have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The supporters of the contenders were said to have pelted stones at each other since the two factions disagree over who should be elected to replace the Chief Butcher who passed away recently.

Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Godwin Ahianyo who corroborated the story to our regional correspondent said the Police which was aware of the tensions in the area had warned that no one should dare hold a forum with the aim of electing the new Chief Butcher.

“There was instruction from the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) that no one should hold himself as a Chief Butcher for which a committee has been set to look into the issue,” he said.

The leadership of the two factions was arrested after the clash but has since been granted bail.

The two persons contesting the position were also arrested but have been granted bail.
