Thirteen (13) persons have so far been confirmed dead in the accident which occurred at Kyekyewere on the Nsawam – Suhum stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway at the Suhum Government Hospital alone.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 15th September, 2020 after an articulated truck lost control and run into two buses carrying passengers.
The DAF Cargo truck with registration number, 3339-T 03 was heading to Burkina Faso from Accra burst a tyre and run into two buses carrying passengers.
Several other passengers who sustained varied degrees of injuries have been transferred to the Nsawam Government Hospital and Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
“Sources say that the DAF Bus burst a tyre and run into the Grand Bird, the STC Driver who was following the Grand bird Bus tried to swerve and save the situation but ended up crashing into the Grand bird bus leading to the accident…,” the NADMO Coordinator in the area narrated.
Pictures from the scene of the accident show victims lying in sorry state with dead having some parts missing.
The victims include the wife and son of the administrator of the Tamale hospital who were coming to Accra from Tamale.
The administrator upon receiving news of the death of the two went to the Suhum Government Hospital to demand that the bodies be released to him for burial.
Sources say the two married recently.
