A Communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was considering appointing interdicted Political Science Lecturer, Prof Ransford Gyampo to be the running mate of their 2020 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

According to Ernest Kumi, the NDC in its quest to appoint a neutral to partner the former President for the 2020 elections was considering appointing Prof Gyampo.

“I have heard that Prof Gyampoh was one of the people the NDC was considering for Vice Presidential candidate position…so I heard…,” he claimed in a discussion on UTV as monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com.

Prof Gyampoh has become the centre of a BBC documentary that sought to expose #SexForGrades in public Universities in West Africa.

He and Dr Butakor have been interdicted by the University of Ghana pending investigations into the documentary.

A communicator of the NDC, Dallas Williams had argued that the release of the documentary was clearly an attempt by the government to divert attention from the increasing economic hardship in the country.

He said he was not shocked that Prof Gyampo has been at the centre of the controversy arguing that it is clearly an attempt to silence the man who has been a critic of the government.

“The moment the video was released and they started zooming into Prof Gyampo, I knew they have an agenda against the young man, that they wanted to bring him down…,” he had argued.

But the NPP communicator insisted he is not shocked that the NDC has been defending Prof Gyampoh as according to him, Prof Gyampo is a ‘darling boy’ of the NDC.

Ernest Kumi insisted the NDC wanted Prof Gyampo who is an academic to partner John Mahama just like Dr Bawumia was selected to partner Nana Addo despite not being a member of the NPP at the time of his selection.
