A 25-year-old man collapsed and died on the spot after abusing seven tablets of pain relieving substance, tramadol during a contest.

The incident occurred at Ajumako Asaaban in the Ajumako-Enyan District of the Central Region.

The man identified as Kofi Kwansa was said to have collapsed after he took the seventh dose of the substance during a contest with two of his friends.

His friends who thought he was joking started cheering him on until they realised he was not breathing again.

Sensing danger, the friends took Kofi Kwansa to the Ajumako Hospital for him to be revived but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The friends who could not stand the sight of their friend losing his life in their hands has since taken to the heels and not returned to the town.

The body of Kofi Kwansa has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Government Hospital for autopsy.
