Mayhem at Kwahu: 6 dead after Fulani attack

Six people, including three nomadic Fulani herdsmen, have died within four days, following separate gun assaults and reprisal attacks between the herdsmen and residents of some farming communities in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.

Some unknown Kwahu indigenes attacked and killed three Fulanis last Tuesday, and the herdsmen retaliated by attacking nearby communities, terrorising residents and destroying properties.

Critics in Kwahu have blamed the latest attacks on a recent statement by Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, asking his constituents to safeguard their lives and properties by standing up against the atrocities of the Fulani herdsmen.

The Minister is alleged to have said he couldn’t fathom why the over 60,000 people living within the community would allow themselves to be cowed by just 300 Fulani herdsmen.

This, critics believe, forced the locals to attack the Fulanis, which has resulted in the latest loss of lives and property.
