Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ketu North constituency and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, has lamented how Mobile Money commonly known as Momo has increased the burden on lawmakers
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker who has been in parliament since 2005 said the introduction of Mobile Money or Momo has changed how constituents make demands on their lawmakers.
According to the MP when he entered parliament in January 2005 there were limited mobile network companies so people will wait for him to come to the constituency before meeting him to solve their problems.
“When I entered parliament in 2005 January, we didn’t have a mobile network where all these issues would come to you. It is when you to go the constituency that they hear you have come and then they will come to you. But now text messages, WhatsApp messages and calls and the worst of it is all is Momo. So you can’t give and excuse” be said in an interview monitored but Ghananewspage.com.
The Public Accounts Committee Chair said no matter the part of the country you are in, constituents are able to bill you and request for momo.
“Even if you are in Bolga or in Tamale.. in Dzodze or Afife or Tajeho in my constituency it’s a matter of sending my momo to me. You cannot even meet all the demands because your salary is not even enough to satisfy all demands so you have to be managing” the lawmaker said.
