Black Stars B captain, Shafiu Mumuni has confirmed that his manager has been in talks with the Porcupines over a possible transfer to the Reds.
The Porcupines according to media reports have ignited their long-standing interest in the 24-year-old following its quest in the upcoming 2020/2021 CAF Champions League.
Shafiu rose to prominence at the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal, where he netted four times to finish as the tournament’s top scorer, and also impressed in the CAF Confederation Cup last year.
In February, Shafiu was reported to be on the verge of sealing a deal to Romanian side CFR Cluj, but he could not secure a deal despite successful trails due to the coronavirus which has forced Romanian authorities to suspended football activities.
However, the former Ashantigold captain reveals that Asante Kotoko could be his likely destination should a move to Cluj falls through.
“I have been in talks with CFR Cluj, I had trained with them and even concluded my medical before the virus emerged.
“My manager has been in touch with Asante Kotoko” – he told Wontumi Sports.
Shafiu Mumuni is a free agent after ending his contract with Ashantigold few months ago.
Meanwhile, the life patron of Asante Kotoko, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has currently banned the club from buying any more players for the next one whole season.
This decision of the King was taken and made public before the club was given the nod to represent the country in the Champions League, and it’s left for time whether or not His Majesty the King, will reconsider his order.
