NDC bags GHC 100,000 from Flagbearer Aspirants

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) bagged an amount of GHC 100,000 from persons that trooped to its party headquarters to pick nomination forms at its headquarters yesterday.

The amount was realized from the sale of the forms to the five persons at the cost of GHC 20,000 each.

Five persons had picked nomination forms to contest the opposition party’s flagbearership slot by close of yesterday.

The five, John Mahama, Stephen Atubiga, Joshua Alabi, Sylvestre Mensah and Alban Bagbin, had their forms picked on their behalves by their representatives from the party’s headquarters in Adabraka in Accra.

“As at the close of nominations, only five people had picked forms, so the process will continue after they present the forms…,” Deputy General Secretary of the party, Barbara Serwah Asamoah confirmed on Accra-based Citi FM.

The five persons were among the about 11 persons that declared intentions to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections.

It is however unclear if the party will re-open nominations as six people failed to pick nominations because of complains that the amount was too much.

The six persons who could not pick forms as at the close of nominations were a former Trade Minister, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; a banker and oil and gas consultant, Mr Nuredeen Iddrisu; the MP for Cape Coast South, Mr George Kwaku Ricketts Hagan; a lawyer, Mr Elikplim Agbemava and Mr David Doste Kwame Kuwadah, and Goosie Tanoh.
