No party member was disenfranchised in polling station election – Shama NPP

A Shama Constituency Communication Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Baidoo, has denied claims that a number of aspirants were denied the opportunity to contest in the just ended polling station election in the constituency.

Mr. Baidoo on Eyewitness News dismissed claims that some members of the party were deliberately disenfranchised during the polls.

He said most of the aggrieved party members who have raised concerns about the integrity of the polls decided to stay away from the polls after raising concerns.

“We did not disenfranchise anybody. We never prevented anybody from voting. When they got to know their people were not organised, they started withdrawing themselves from the race. In instances where the contesting candidates were not present, the others were declared winners. It does not mean we are disenfranchising anyone,” he said.

Some aggrieved NPP supporters in the Constituency had called for the cancellation of the polling station elections.

They also demanded the reconstitution of the constituency’s election committee.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s constituency office at Inchaban, Benjamin Sarfo, a Constituency Communication Member, said their call follows the use of party vigilantes to organise the elections across the constituency where people voted without identity cards while a number of aspirants were prevented from contesting.

However, Mr. Baidoo dismissed the claim, insisting that the polls were free and fair.
