Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vigilante Group, Delta Force has been disbanded, leader of the Group has said.
According to Kojo Bamba, the group was disbanded following calls by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, for the disbandment of all forms of vigilante groups affiliated to all political parties in the country.
“We have heeded the call by the President for the collapse of various vigilante groups…I can say categorically that the group, Delta Force has been disbanded…,” he confirmed in a TV interview monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com.
The President during the presentation of the 2019 State of the Nation Address called for the disbandment of all politically affiliated vigilante groups.
The leadership of the two major political parties in Ghana – NPP and NDC – has since been meeting to find out ways to disband the group.
The Delta Force Group was in the news for negative reasons after it stormed the office of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to drive the Regional Security Coordinator out of his office.
They claimed that he was not appointed in consultation with them.
Explaining the reason for the formation of the group, Bamba said:
“We formed Delta Force after the Supreme Court declaration that elections are won at the Polling Station…we realized that the NDC had been intimidating people at the Polling Stations during voter registrations and also snatch ballot boxes especially in NPP stronghold of Ashanti Region, so we decided to form a group to protect polling centres and also protect voters especially the aged.”
