In a detailed statement released on May 3, 2025, A Plus denied any involvement in the alleged corruption case and clarified his role in assisting an individual who sought to clear their name.

A Plus: “I Was Approached, But I’m Not Involved”

According to the MP, in November 2024, a man reached out to him, claiming to be falsely accused in the ongoing payroll fraud investigation at the National Service Scheme. A Plus, drawing on his background as a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian-owned media company, agreed to help amplify the individual’s story through media platforms.

“The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused,” he explained via Facebook.
“If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree.”

He emphasized that his involvement was solely to give the accused a platform to speak, reiterating that every individual deserves the right to be heard and defended in the public space.

MP Denies Any Connection to NSS Payroll Fraud

A Plus firmly denied any financial dealings, contracts, or affiliations with the NSS, distancing himself from what has been labeled as the “NSS ghost names scandal”. He also responded directly to allegations raised during a press briefing by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who challenged A Plus to speak publicly on the matter.

“I have no knowledge of the matter and no connection to it whatsoever,” A Plus stated.
“I have never received payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat.”

He described the Attorney General’s comments as misleading and suggested that the accusations stem from a misunderstanding or a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Standing with Others: A Record of Public Support

The lawmaker highlighted that he has often provided similar support to other public figures, particularly government appointees under previous administrations who faced accusations and were later exonerated.

“I supported Cassiel Ato Forson publicly because I believed in his integrity. I’ve always believed in standing with people during their low moments, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

This, he argued, should not be misinterpreted as interference in legal proceedings, but rather as a commitment to fairness and justice in public discourse.

A Call for Transparency: MP Challenges Attorney General

A Plus concluded by urging Attorney General Ayine to release any evidence contradicting his statements, stating that transparency and accountability are essential principles for all public officials.

“If Dr. Ayine holds any information to the contrary, I respectfully urge him to make it public,” he declared.

Background: The NSS Ghost Names Scandal and Political Tensions

The controversy erupted following an April 30, 2025 press conference by Attorney General Dominic Ayine, who accused A Plus of making false and defamatory statements on social media. Dr. Ayine challenged the MP to explain his alleged involvement in the National Service ghost names payroll fraud and hinted at sensitive information he claimed to possess.

“Let him be asked what he knows about the National Service ghost names scandal. If he tells the truth, Ghanaians will understand his actions,” the Attorney General said.

He also accused the MP of using social media to deflect accountability and spread misinformation.
