The elders of the three towns with sexually suggestive names have said that they risk being killed by their ancestors if they change the controversial names of their towns.
According to them, the names – Kote y3 aboa, 3tw3 nim Nyansa and Shua ye Morbor were given by their ancestors for specific reasons and hence ought not to be changed.

“We will not change the names, our ancestors will kill us if we change the names, our ancestors gave us strict instructions not to change them…,” one of the elders told UTV.
Last week, Members of Parliament in Ghana lost their composure in fits of giggles and horselaughs, when the Member for Abirem in the Eastern Region, John Frimpong Osei listed out the names of towns in his Birim North District that were awaiting connection to the national electricity grid.
The laughter was caused by the place names, which contained references to genitals.
These are the English translations for the Twi names:
* Etwe nim Nyansa – “Vagina is Wise”
* Kote ye Aboa – “Penis is a Fool”
* Shua ye Morbor – “Testicles are Sad”.
Asked if they would be ready to accept a change in their names, the elders said NO arguing that they hope the names of the towns will serve as tourist attraction for them.
One of the elders recounted how a late chief of Oda once summoned their leaders for calling their town such names.
“But when our elders went to his palace to explain, he understood and let them go free…,” the elder said.
