The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on heads of private schools and teachers to help boost educational standards in the constituency.

He urged teachers to adopt the use of technology to enhance teaching skills, since that is what would bring development to the constituency as a whole.

“We have made available public funds to as well support private teachers who are also due for study leave to further their studies.

These comments were made by Hon. Afenyo-Markin when he addressed the Association of Private School Teachers after he donated five hundred and four (504) HP Laptops as part of his commitment and initiative to offer one-teacher-one-laptop policy for both public and private sector schools to boost educational levels in the constituency.

“We started the distribution with public schools and it is now the turn of private teachers as well,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He further urged the teachers to “use these laptops to improve educational standards in the municipality since education is key in youth development.”

The presentation follows one to public basic schools barely a month ago.

He donated six hundred and six (606) HP Laptops to public basic schools and 1200 desks to public schools in his constituency.

The Effutu MP encouraged them to put the laptops to good useso it can impact society positively.

“We would have wished that University of Education Winneba (UEW), will take up its social responsibility to help people of Effutu, but if they won’t listen to us, we need to demonstrate to them that we are ready to take our destiny into our own hands,” he said.

He explained further that “my job as a Parliamentarian is not only to make laws alone, but also to connect the private laws to my people and communities for development.”

He hinted that an ICT Resource Centre and community library will be constructed in October in some locations in the municipality.

“My determination is to serve the people, and since the people have seen what am doing, so the Minister of Education, has assured us that if we provide infrastructure this year, there will be a new Senior High School in the constituency” the MP disclosed.
