A 19-year-old teenager, Solomon Tetteh, is in the custody of the Police for allegedly setting fire into the room of his 28-year-old ex- girlfriend, Abigail Tei, for breaking up with him.
The awful incident occurred at 11:00am local time on Sunday morning at Huhunya, a community in the Yilo Krobo Municipality near Nkruakan in the Eastern Region.
According to eyewitness, the suspect broke into the room of the ex-girlfriend who had traveled and sprinkled petrol on her belongings before setting fire into the room to cause havoc.
It is understood that, the fire affected five other rooms in the family house where the unfortunate incident happened, displacing five occupants.
“Around 11:00am, we were eating when we heard one of the guys shouting our house is on fire so we rushed to the scene.
“We saw the person who caused the fire run away so immediately we rushed to where he is to go and arrest him,” the eyewitnesses said.
The ex-girlfriend of Solomon, Abigail Tei, a mother of one explained what happened to our reporter.
“I was not around but someone called me on phone that the boy [Solomon Tetteh] has invaded my room and set fire into it.
“All the rooms here have been burnt. I lost everything, my clothes, my fridge, my mattress, my child’s clothes,” she said.
Abigail then noted that the two are no more together as lovers.
“I have broken up with him for the past one month and I have nothing to do with him.
“I don’t feel safe anymore because I don’t know what will happen to me if he is released,” she affirmed.
The suspect who’s now in police custody is expected to be arraigned before Court soon.
