An Elder of the Mt Olivet Assembly in the New Awoshie District Church of Pentecost, has put together a team of medical experts to screen the aged in the district for free.
The team which was led by Dr Pinaman Isaac, an in-house dentist from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital screened participants for various illnesses including hypertension and diabetes.
They also screened the aged for dental and eye conditions such as cataract. Persons who were found to be having medical conditions were offered basic treatment and referred to the ‘appropriate’ quarters for the needed medical attention.
Participants were also offered advise on how to maintain healthy lifestyle so they can continue to enjoy good health even in their old age.
Main organiser of the event, Elder Theophilus Prince Tetteh told GhanaNewsPage.Com in an interview that he organised the health screening exercise as part of his efforts to support the aged in the church.
“We have been organising mini parties to celebrate the aged in the church every Pensions Day but this year, we thought it wise to offer free screening in some basic ailments for them…so together with my wife and a few other sponsors, we brought the team together for this exercise…,” he said.
The event was well patronised by persons aged 60 years and above in all the six Assemblies in the New Awoshie District.
Elder TT, as he is affectionately called, said the team hopes to conduct another free screening exercise in December which will cover breast cancer and prostate cancer.
He was grateful to his sponsors led by his wife, Mrs Eunice Tetteh, Elder Peter Dadzie, who is also the Presiding Elder for Mt Olivet Assembly and Brother Richard Asante.
