Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng is still the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) established by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to fight the galamsey menace, an aide has said.
Reports that made rounds indicated that the Heart Surgeon had been replaced as the Chairman of the Committee.
The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kweku Asomah-Cheremeh, has been asked to Chair the IMCIM, the reports indicated further.
Reacting to the news, an aide to Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Ernest Kumi maintained that his boss is still the Chairman of the Committee.
He said that neither the Minister nor the Ministry has received any communication from the presidency asking Prof Frimpong Boateng to step aside.
“Even yesterday, he chaired a meeting on illegal mining, so I am wondering where that communication came from…,” he said.
Mr Kumi further said that his boss has been steering affairs of the committee to the pleasure of the President and the entire country.
