A retired Soldier has gunned down a suspected notorious ringleader of some suspected land guards at Akwamu near Nsawam in the Eastern region.
The deceased has been identified as Kwaku Asare, 45, whose body has been deposited at the morgue.
Confirming the incident to Starr News, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at about 11:00am the Nsawam police received distress calls which indicated that someone had been shot to dead at Odonkor’s farm near Akwamu.
He said, Police personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene and met a retired Soldier, Sgt Ocloo Raphael, 51, wielding a pump action gun containing 4 rounds of AA catridges.
According to ASP Tetteh, Police confiscated the gun and the cartridges.
Upon interrogation, the retired Soldier admitted shooting someone to dead in self-defence because he was under attack by the deceased Kweku Asare and his accomplices Emmanuel Kwofi, 46, and several others at large.
The Regional Police PRO added that, the ex-military officer led the police to a distance of about 300 meters where the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a cutlass in his right hand.
ASP Tetteh narrated that later that day one Anthony Asagbavi, 36 and Ayawoley Stephen, 32, security men in charge of Nkansah’s farm in the area reported to Police that whilst on the farm, some men numbering about 100 wielding cutlasses, sticks and guns attacked and disarmed them and had proceeded to Odonkor’s Farm.
However, an hour later three men, John Narh alias Attah, 22, Kofi Adjei, 40 and Kwame Ntow, 48, brought to Police one pump action gun containing 5 rounds of AA cartridges and an empty single barrel gun and reported that they seized the gun and ammunition from security men on Nkansah farm and wanted to hand them over to the police.
ASP Tetteh said the three were arrested and detained in police custody to assist with investigations.
Meanwhile, Police patrol has been intensified in the area.
