Togo withdraws from hosting WAFU U-20 Championship

The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) is calling on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone the WAFU U-20 tournament.

Togo are to host the tournament from November 18 to December 3 but they want the tournament to be rescheduled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the FTF, the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is worrying hence their reason for the tournament to be postponed.

Togo say they will engage WAFU and CAF to find a new date for the competition.

The tournament was scheduled to be held from November 18 to December 3 and would have served as qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania, which would have in turn determined Africa’s representatives for the 2021 FIFA U-20 world cup.

Ghana who will be participating in the tournament have drawn in what can be termed the ‘group of death’ alongside Nigeria and Cote D’Ivoire in Group B.
