Ghanaian swimmer Abeiku Jackson has missed out on the men’s 100m butterfly semi-finals after clocking 53.39sec in the heats on Thursday morning.
The 21-year-old’s time placed him first in Heat 2, but unfortunately could not secure qualification to the next round as he exited the Olympic Games.
51. 74sec is the slowest time among the 16 qualified swimmers.
He can, however, be proud of setting a new national record.
Jackson, who also specializes in the 50m freestyle, said before his event that he was expecting a good start as he hoped to clinch a medal.
“I have prepared very well and want to start on a bright note and advance to the next stage.”
