Two pregnant women and seven others drowned in the Oti River on Sunday.

The sad incident occurred when they were traveling from Mawuvi kofe to Dzagbeshi kofe, after church service.

The incident occurred on 4th February, 2018.

The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) boss, Mr. Dasievor Jacob explained to Christiana Ativi of Oti radio news that, they were able to retrieve all the nine dead bodies from the river namely.

He named the victims as Joyce Atali, 16, Bensah Atali, 18, Dormenyo Atali 2 years and Amedzuwoe Akor 22 years.

The rest are: Lucy Tsatsu 19 years, Xolali Tsatsu 18 years, Mkpebi Maabo 30 years and Adwoa Mkpebu 19 years.

According to one of the victims who survived the accident occurred few minutes after 2:00pm on Sunday.

Mr Dasievor advised the general public especially those crossing the river to always put on their life jacket and also avoid over loading.

He added that, the bodies had been sent to Worawora government hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
