Five supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sustained varied degrees of injuries during a violent clash at the party’s office in Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
The clash happened after the nomination forms of former Presidential aspirant and Member of Parliament (MP), Addai Nimo was rejected.
Supporters of Addai Nimoh and his opponent attacked one another with stones, machetes, sticks and other offensive weapons as part of efforts to defend their chosen aspirants.
Supporters of Addai Nimo had earlier gone to the party office to submit his nomination forms.
But that was rejected because of the excuse that the incumbent was on his way to submit his.
But as the embattled Hon. Addai Nimoh and his supporters were waiting to go and re-file the nomination forms at the agreed time, they received information that the constituency officers were closing the office in a bid to prevent him from filing as tomorrow[Thursday] is the deadline.
They then rushed to the party offices and actually saw the executives preparing to leave the office.
Addai Nimoh’s supports met supporters of the incumbent MP who had filed his nomination forms a short while ago and tempers flared up resulting in a scuffle.
In the ensuing clash, five persons sustained serious injuries.
