Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has taken his baby mama, Sara Adwoa Safo to the cleaners for going in for funding her education with a GetFund scholarship meant for the poor.
According to the vociferous MP, he could no fathom why an ‘industrious’ person like Adwoa Safo would go in for such a support when she had more than enough resources to fund her education.
The Auditor General after an audit of the GetFund scholarship scheme revealed that several MPs and current government appointees were beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme.
The audit listed Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sara Adwoa Safo as part of the appointees who enjoyed the scholarship when their party was in opposition.
Other appointees named by the Auditor-General’s report as beneficiaries include the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Dr Prince Armah, who issued a statement saying he was deserving of it; Education Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who also issued a statement saying he benefited from it in 2014 and not as a minister of state; and the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Barfour Awuah, who is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
The revelation has generated outrage among some Ghanaians on social media.
Reacting to this on Net 2 TV monitored by GhanaNewsPage.Com, Ken Agyapong described as ‘greedy’ and ‘shameful’ the decision of MPs to go in for GetFund Scholarship.
He singled out his former lover, Adwoa Safo for ‘disgracing’ herself by going in for such a scholarship.
“Is Adwoa Safo claiming that she can’t afford 24,000, it’s a shame…Adwoa is so industrious, she is into several businesses, his father [and] I could have even paid for her so I am surprised that she will go and take GHC 22,000, it’s cheap on her side, very cheap…,”
“Where are you taking GHC 22,000 to? Does she not pay more than GHC 22,000 for the business class she has been occupying? Why will you want to bring yourself to this ridicule…?,” he queried.
