Members of the Volta Caucus of the opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) have rejected the Flagbearer of the party, John Mahama’s choice of running mate.
This comes after Mr John Dramani Mahama chose Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate ahead of 2020 General Election.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang is also a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (NCC) and the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state University in Ghana.
She is the first woman to be chosen as running mate by the NDC in the party’s democratic dispensation.
Reacting to Naana’s appointment, they described it as “intra party coup against the people of the Volta Region in the selection of Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate for the NDC”
According to the statement copied to GhanaNewsPage.Com, “since the exit of the former President Rawlings from the political scene, due to term of limits, the NDC has been hijacked by the Northern and the Fante politicians in the party”
The letter dated 6th July, 2020 further stated that, “we the members of the volta caucus vehemently reject this level of anti-volta discrimination being perpetuated by the Northern and the Fante politicians within the party”
